Ecommerce Photography FAQ

Questions ecommerce brands ask before booking a shoot

CF
Pretty simple, actually. You ship your products to our San Diego studio, we shoot them, and you get finished images back ready to upload. Most of our clients are not local at all. They ship from wherever they are and we handle everything from there. Before the shoot we have a quick conversation about your products, how many angles you need, and where the images are going. From that we put together a shot list so nothing gets missed and you know exactly what you are getting. Files come back organized and sized for your store, Amazon, and any ads you are running. If you are not sure where to start, just send us a note about what you are selling and we will take it from there.
Depends on where you are selling. For Amazon, you want to fill all seven image slots: one main image on pure white, then alternate angles, a packaging shot, a lifestyle image, and usually an infographic. Brands that fill all seven consistently outperform listings with one or two images, and it is one of the more straightforward things you can do to improve conversion. For Shopify and your own store, most brands land between four and eight images per product: a clean hero shot, a couple of angles, a detail close-up, and at least one lifestyle image. For paid social and Google Shopping you usually need different crops and sizes on top of that. We build the shot list around what you actually need, not a number that sounds impressive.
Studio shots and lifestyle images do completely different jobs, so the answer really depends on where your customers are finding you. Studio shots are what make someone feel confident enough to buy. They show the product clearly, cover all the detail a buyer needs, and are what Amazon and most product pages require. Lifestyle images work earlier in the process, when someone is scrolling and has not decided anything yet. A strong lifestyle image is what gets the click on Instagram or in a paid ad before the person even gets to your store. If you are mostly getting traffic through search, studio shots carry most of the weight. If you are building through social or running paid ads, lifestyle content is what moves people. Most brands end up wanting both, and we almost always shoot them in the same session so you come out with everything at once.
Yes, and we plan for this before we even step on set. Every file comes back sized and organized for the channels you are actually using, ready for your web team or media buyer to use immediately. For Amazon that means main images on pure white with the product filling at least 85 percent of the frame, no logos or text, plus all secondary slots sized to spec. For Shopify, files come in both desktop and mobile sizes so your pages stay sharp on every device. For paid ads on Meta, Google, TikTok, or anywhere else you are running, just tell us your channels before the shoot and we cut everything to the right sizes so your team can drop them straight into the ad manager.
Yes, retouching is included on every shoot. That covers color correction across the full set so everything looks consistent, label and surface cleanup, and dust or blemish removal. For white background work, background removal and clipping paths are standard too, so files are ready to drop straight into your Amazon listing or Shopify product page without anyone on your end needing to open Photoshop. On bigger catalog shoots that saves a significant amount of time. For heavier work like ghost mannequin for apparel or composite backgrounds, we quote that upfront as part of the brief so you know exactly what is included before anything is booked.
It really depends on the product and what you need from it. Clean white background shots move the fastest, so a straightforward skincare or supplement line can cover a lot of ground in a single day. Products like apparel with multiple looks, fine jewelry that needs careful lighting, or anything where you're going for Amazon's full seven-slot count naturally take more time per product. Things shift again if you're adding lifestyle images in the same session, since that's essentially a second type of shoot running alongside the studio work. Before every shoot we go through your actual product list and come back with a realistic number based on what you have, not a round figure that sounds good on paper. Send us your products and we'll give you something specific.
Standard delivery is 3 to 5 business days from shoot day. That includes full retouching and formatted files, not raw images you still have to process. If you have a product launch or a campaign going live on a specific date, rush delivery is available when there is room in the schedule and we know about it early enough. Either way, your delivery date is confirmed before the shoot starts so you can plan your launch around an actual deadline. If you have a hard date coming up, just mention it when you reach out and we will make sure it works.
Yes, and a good chunk of our ecommerce work is exactly this. Some brands come in every month for new drops, others bring a full product line for one catalog shoot. What makes ongoing work run well is visual consistency: same lighting setup, same color treatment, same look across every session, so products added six months from now still feel like they belong on the same store as everything shot today. For brands with regular shoots we usually set up a recurring schedule so there is always a slot held and nothing falls behind when a new product is ready to go. If you have a launch or seasonal refresh coming up, just reach out early and we will get it planned.
